Lechtal Nature Park
The Lech Valley stretches along the emerald green Lech river, which is considered one of the last free-flowing wild rivers in Central Europe. The region includes idyllic villages such as Elbigenalp, Holzgau and Bach and is known for its pristine nature. Particularly impressive is the Holzgau suspension bridge, one of the longest pedestrian suspension bridges in Austria, which offers spectacular views of the region's gorges and waterfalls.
Hikers and nature lovers will find an extensive network of trails in the Lechtal Nature Park, including the Lechwegone of the most beautiful long-distance hiking routes in Europe, which follows the river from its source to its fall into Lake Constance. Climbers appreciate the challenging tours in the Allgäu Alps, while mountain bikers explore fantastic trails along the Lech or up to the alpine pastures. In winter, the region offers peaceful snowshoe hikes, ski tours and a small, family-friendly ski area in Bach.
The Lechtal stands for gentle tourism and living tradition. Visitors can fortify themselves in rustic alpine huts with Lechtaler Kässpätzle or homemade bread. Cultural highlights include the Geierwally open-air theater in Elbigenalp and traditional cattle drives in autumn. The combination of unspoilt nature, activity opportunities and Tyrolean hospitality makes the Lechtal Nature Park a special natural gem.
