Hallstatt is a market town on the western shore of Lake Hallstatt in the Austrian Salzkammergut. The alpine-style alleyways and houses dating back to the 16th century are home to cafés and stores. The Salzbergbahn takes you to the Salzwelten, a former salt mine with an underground salt lake, as well as a viewing platform above Lake Hallstatt. To the west, a path leads into the Echerntal valley with glacier potholes and the Waldbachstrub waterfall.
