Salzkammergut
Once partly known as a private imperial domain, the name Salzkammergut now refers to the region of the three provinces (Upper Austria, Styria and Salzburg), which stretches from Fuschlsee, Wolfgangsee, Mondsee to Almtal, Vöcklatal to Dachstein and the mighty Grimming. Lake Attersee, Lake Traunsee and Lake Hallstatt also offer many beautiful excursion destinations and well-known towns, villages and settlements.
Hallstatt with its impressive salt mine and houses built close to the rock, Bad Ischl with its famous imperial villa, Gmunden with its world-famous ceramics, to name but a few. The landscape of the Salzkammergut consists of the Traun and a total of 76 larger and smaller lakes, the Salzkammergut and the neighboring Dachstein, the Totes Gebirge, the Osterhorngruppe, the Traunstein and the Höllengebirge
In the cold season, the Salzkammergut is transformed into a winter wonderland that delights with skiing, cross-country skiing and snowshoeing. The cozy mountain huts invite you to linger and serve hearty specialties while enjoying the snowy views. There is something for everyone here - from active adventures to a relaxing break in one of Austria's most beautiful regions.
