Lake Wolfgangsee is nestled between gentle hills and imposing mountains and connects the charming towns of St. Wolfgang, St. Gilgen and Strobl. The region is famous for its traditional Hotel Weißes Rösslwhich achieved worldwide fame through the operetta of the same name. The historical Schafbergbahnone of the steepest cog railroads in Europe, leads up the 1,783 meter high Schafberg and offers a spectacular panoramic view over the Salzkammergut.
Water sports enthusiasts get their money's worth here: Lake Wolfgangsee is ideal for sailing, stand-up paddling, swimming or diving. Hikers and cyclists can explore the picturesque lakeside landscape or go on mountain tours to the Zwölferhorn and the Schafberg. Particularly popular is the Wolfgangsee round tripa boat trip that connects all the towns and offers a unique view of the landscape.
The region is known for its relaxed atmosphere and traditional hospitality. Culinary specialties such as freshly caught fish from Lake Wolfgangsee or Salzburger Nockerln dumplings are served in the inns. In winter, the area is transformed into an idyllic Christmas paradise with the Wolfgangsee Adventone of the most atmospheric Advent markets in Austria.
